You're now ready to use Migration Assistant to transfer content from the old Mac to the new one. If you installed antivirus software, firewall software, or VPN software, turn that software off until you're done. If either of them is using OS X El Capitan or earlier, they should also be on the same Wi-Fi network. Make sure that both computers have Wi-Fi turned on and are near each other. Update the software on both computers, if possible.
It's also possible to transfer content from a Time Machine backup, or from a Windows PC, or from an iPhone. The steps in this article describe how to transfer content from one Mac to another Mac over Wi-Fi. Use Migration Assistant to copy all of your documents, apps, user accounts, and settings to a new Mac from another computer.
